8th APRIL 2012 EASTER SUNDAY

Dear Parishioners,

Happy Easter to you, and all who are near and dear to you.

We rejoice on this Easter Day because: “The Lord has indeed risen, alleluia”!

“This day was made by the Lord, we rejoice and are glad” – the response to the psalm sums up what we celebrate today.

THE EMPTY TOMB:
There is a sense of urgency and activity about today’s Gospel from St John. Mary of Magdala going to the tomb very early ... the stone already moved away ... Jesus is Risen … Mary running to tell the disciples … Peter and John ran to the tomb … St John describes the scene of the empty tomb … “he saw and he believed”.

Yes, there is a sense of excitement, anxiety, confusion, belief and acceptance. We remember the words spoken previously by Jesus ... “I will go before you to Galilee”. All of these emotions sum up the Easter Joy that can be in our hearts and minds.
Notice it is ‘STILL DARK’ when Mary goes to the tomb. Does this say something to us about the ‘darkness’ of our lives at times; the ‘dark’ and sad events in our world and yet it is the same day dawning when we celebrate the resurrection and new life. Even when it is dark – we can still see if we have eyes for it, and if we can look at things through God’s eyes.

This is the message in our second reading from St Paul to the Colossians: “Let your thoughts be on heavenly things, not on things that are on the earth … you too will be revealed in all your glory with Him”.

THANKS: Many thanks to all who have prepared and participated in the celebration of Holy Week and Easter – Those who have beautified our Church young and not-so-young, those involved in the various liturgies and all who participated.

CONGRATULATIONS to all those who were received into our Parish Church Community during the Easter Vigil and those who were baptised – we continue to support them with our prayers.

And thanks for your many greetings and gifts. Every good wish and
blessing to you all for Easter
Fr Joe and the Parish Team
