SPEC COMMISSIONING MASS

posted on 08 October 2010

On the evening of the 8th October the new intake of volunteers aged 18-25 from SPEC, the Diocesan Youth Retreat Centre, celebrated the start of their year of formation and evangelisation. They were given a tour of the Cathedral by Fr.Michael O’Boy, Director of the Agency of Evangelisation and commissioned at a Mass celebrated in the Lady Chapel. The principal celebrant was Bishop John Arnold, who building on the recent papal visit; spoke of the need of the volunteers to experience continual conversion to the person of Christ, building their lives on the message of John Henry Newman and spreading the goodnews to the young people of the Diocese. Fr.Michael O'Boy and Fr.Digby Samuels, part of the Youth Chaplaincy Team con-celebrated. After the Mass, David Burke, Director of Youth Ministry with Bishop John Arnold, gave each of them a St.Damiano cross as a symbol of their new mission in the diocese. Afterwards the team had some food and drink and spoke of their nervousness and yet delight to be part of the work of evangelisation. Please do keep these young people in your prayers as they seek to make Christ known.
