Allen Hall was founded in 1568 by Cardinal William Allen in Douai, Northern France, to provide priests for the English Mission during penal times. Many of its first students were martyred for the faith. In 1793 the college moved to Old Hall Green, near Ware in Hertfordshire, remaining there until 1975 when it transferred to Chelsea.
