New Vocations Director for the Diocese of Westminster
posted on 17 September 2009
Fr Richard Nesbitt has been appointed Vocations Director for the Diocese of Westminster. Fr Richard will replace Fr Chris Vipers, who has held the post since 2001.
Fr Richard was ordained in June 2007 and is currently serving as Assistant Priest in the parish of Our Lady and St Joseph, Hanwell.
Fr Richard said: 'I am deeply, deeply honoured to have been asked by Archbishop Vincent Nichols to be the new Vocations Director for our diocese. I came to the faith relatively late in life - I wasn't received into the Church until I was 28. I think like anyone who has received a calling later in life you appreciate the gift of that calling even more because you have known a time in your life when the direction and meaning of life was not clear. It is like finally finding the oasis in the desert. Then when you look back on the journey you have travelled, you realise how many people God has sent into your life to guide you to this living water.'
'I have been blessed and inspired by the example and wisdom of so many, priests and lay people, both on my journey to the Church and to the priesthood. I am therefore humbled and deeply grateful that I have now been asked to help others to find that living water, that voice of God's calling.'
“With the grace of God I look forward to continuing Fr Chris's Vipers work and building on the strong foundations he leaves behind him. This is an exciting time in our diocese with our new Archbishop and a new team in Allen Hall seminary. I look forward to working with them as well as with priests and laity across the diocese as together we encourage and nurture new vocations to the priesthood. God continues to call men by their name to His service, men living and working amongst us in our families and parishes. May they have the courage to respond to that call.'
Fr Richard will be based at Allen Hall, the Diocesan Seminary and can be contacted on 020 7349 5624.
