Guidance has been provided to parish priests on how to make the judgement whether there is, because of the incidence of swine flu, reason to vary the usual ways in which Holy Communion is distributed.

Where there is good reason to restrict the ministering of Holy Communion to one kind, as the Host only; and to minister only in the hand, and not on the tongue, there will be need for an explanation to the parish community.

The Liturgy Commission has produced two resources designed to assist with this.

• A sample two sided A5 leaflet is provided which can be edited to meet local circumstances. It is designed for easy photocopying. The leaflet is provided as a Word file to facilitate its being edited to meet local circumstances.
  
• An A6 prayer/information card is also provided. This is designed to be printed on two sides and in colour. Most parishes will need to take the PDF files to a local printer to get a quality and economic result.
