On Saturday 21 July Archbishop Vincent Nichols ordained three new permanent deacons for the Diocese
of Westminster, Anthony Curran, Nick Agule and Brian McMahon.
In his Homily the Archbishop of
Westminster reminded those present that ‘proclaiming the Gospel is our calling
and privilege’, and said that as deacons the men being ordained would play a ‘pivotal
role’ in the New Evangelization.
Archbishop Vincent Nichols affirmed
that, ‘The deaconate is vital to the Churches proclamation of hope within the
array of cultures in our diocese today’.
The new deacons were encouraged by the Archbishop
to think creatively about how they might carry out their ministry, as he invited
them to seek the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to find wise answers to
questions and challenges they may face.
Anthony, Nick and Brian will join
a team of over 20 permanent deacons in the Diocese of Westminster. As well as
parish ministry these men are engaged in a variety of other ministries
including prison, school and hospital chaplaincies.
