'Crossing the Threshold'

posted on 30 April 2012

'Crossing the Threshold', a resource day to help parishioners reach out to non-church going Catholics, took place in Pimlico parish hall on Saturday 28 April.

The day addressed concerns about the number of people whose faith has lapsed, by offering practical suggestions to those who would like to help bring them back into parish life and regular Mass attendance.

Workshops included ‘How to make small effective gestures in parishes’ and ‘Using RCIA as a tool to support non-church going Catholics.’

Archbishop Vincent Nichols and Bishop Richard Moth delivered talks to those who attended the resource day about the ‘profoundly personal nature’ of the topics being addressed and encouraging a more positive effort in welcoming new and old parishioners alike into our churches.

Joan How from St Edward the Confessor Parish in Golders Green attended the day and said: “It was a great meeting and I really enjoyed meeting and speaking to people from across the dioceses. The Archbishop and Bishop offered some very valuable insights and I’ve come away with lots of practical ideas about what the parish can do in the future and how to take things forward.”

The day in Pimlico was the fourth of five ‘Crossing the Threshold’ days that are being offered across England and Wales and is part of a three-year project to raise awareness and develop resources to reach out to the estimated 4 – 5 million non churchgoing Catholics in England and Wales.
