Cardinal celebrates Mass for American students

posted on 17 December 2008

Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor celebrated an Advent Mass at the end of the semester for students on the London Programme of the American Universityof Notre Dame, Indiana, on Saturday 13th December 2008.

Notre Dame is one of America’s leading Catholic universities. Each semester 120 American students follow their undergraduate programme at their campus just off Trafalgar Square and get to know London and Europe at first hand. The Cardinal's visit marked his concern that these American students should feel themselves part of a Church which is truly international, embracing as it does in London people from all over the globe.

The Cardinal was formally welcomed by the Director Gregory P. Kucich and assistant directors Laura Holt and Cornelius O’Boyle.  The liturgy was animated by Andrew Hoyt, the campus minister, and Mass was concelebrated by Fr Peter Wilson, senior university chaplain, and Fr John Dickson, Notre Dame chaplain. The Mass was followed by a reception for students and faculty.
