Cardinal Hosts Final Young Adults Mass of 2003

posted on 25 November 2003
Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, Archbishop of Westminster, held the last of this year's series of Masses for young adults in Westminster Cathedral on Sunday 23rd November, the Feast of Christ the King.

The format of the evening is now well established, with the young adults attending the 5.30 pm Mass in the Cathedral before joining the Cardinal for an informal reception and gathering in Westminster Hall. A team of young people provides musical support before the Cardinal delivers a short address. This week he asked the audience to form small groups to discuss, explore and report back on what it means to be a pilgrim in the modern world. The evening was completed with a question and answer session followed by Night Prayer.

Commenting, Cardinal Murphy-O'Connor said:

'We held the first Mass for Young Adults in the spring and since then it has become a regular feature, with Mass held on a monthly basis, followed by an informal get together in Cathedral Hall.

'Over the past few months we have been exploring elements of the catechism and on Sunday the discussion focused on what it means to be a pilgrim in our modern society.

'For these young men and women, to choose the less well trodden path, the path of Our Lord, can be difficult. Often to be a Christian sets them apart from friends and colleagues. But by making the positive choice to remain engaged with the Church and committed to their faith, they find deeper, truer reward.

'I commend all those who have come together for these monthly meetings. These young adults have been an inspiration and encouragement to me and to each other. I hope that many more will be able to join us for the first Mass for young adults of the New Year, in Westminster Cathedral on 25th January 2004.'
