posted on 23 January 2007 A photograph of Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor will feature in a series of ten portraits by the British photographer Don McCullin, to be displayed at the National Portrait Gallery in London from February to May 2007. The display, entitled ‘Faith and Church’ focuses on senior figures of the major faiths in the UK. Speaking about the series, Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor said: “I feel honoured to have my portrait included in the ‘Faith and Church’ series. That faith leaders in Britain have been chosen as the subject of a display in the National Portrait Gallery is a sign of the great importance attached to the role of religion in life in Britain at the moment. At a time when religious believers are often under scrutiny, I consider it more crucial than ever for those believers to stand up for their faith and reinforce the positive contribution of religion. As this series of portraits is displayed, I hope that it will help to make faith an evermore visible and valued presence in society. “I encourage you if you can to visit the display to see representatives of British faith communities captured so creatively by Don McCullin.” |
