Details of Visit with Archbishop of Canterbury to Rome

Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, has today released details of his itinerary for the visit of the Archbishop of Canterbury to Rome. The Cardinal has invited the Archbishop of Canterbury to use his Titular Church in Rome, Santa Maria Sopra Minerva, for Evensong on Saturday October 3rd and will be joining the Archbishop for his audience with His Holiness Pope John Paul II earlier that day.

Full details of the Cardinal’s itinerary are as follows:

Friday 3rd October

Evening Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor will join the Archbishop of Canterbury at a dinner hosted by Cardinal Kasper, President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, in honour of the Archbishop’s visit.

Saturday 4th October

11.00 hrs The Archbishop of Canterbury and his party, including Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor, will have a personal audience with His Holiness the Pope.

15.00 hrs The Archbishop of Canterbury, Cardinal Kasper and Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor will hold a Press Conference at the Venerable English College in Rome.

16.00 hrs Evensong will be held at Santa Maria Sopra Minerva, Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor’s titular church in Rome. The Archbishop of Canterbury and Cardinal Kasper will exchange formal greetings and the Archbishop will institute Bishop John Flack as his representative to the Holy See.

A spokesperson for the Cardinal commented:

“ Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor is delighted to be able to join the Archbishop of Canterbury for this important visit to Rome and is looking forward to sharing in the celebrations at the installation of the Archbishop’s representative to the Holy See which will take place in the Cardinal’s titular church in Rome.”
