Commenting on the death of His Eminence Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, Archbishop of Westminster and President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales, said:

'I was deeply saddened to hear of the death of Metropolitan Anthony. He was a man of deep prayer and great spirituality who guided and influenced many Christians within and beyond these islands.

' I would like to extend my sympathy and condolence to all the clergy and people of the Russian Orthodox Church in Great Britain. They can be assured of the prayers of the Catholic community in England and Wales at this time of great sadness.'
