Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor's Sri Lankan Diary
The Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, is visiting Sri Lanka from December 26th – January 5th to mark the anniversary of the tsunami and to inspect relief and reconstruction projects. He is accompanied by Chris Bain, the director of the Catholic aid agency CAFOD, which has pledged £4.8m to partners in Sri Lanka.

Meeting local religious leaders in Galle

In Galle, the Cardinal held a meeting with local religious leaders who spoke of their co-operation in the wake of the tsunami. Later the Cardinal donated on behalf of Caritas a number of items to help tsunami survivors to recover their livelihoods, including a boat donated to a fisherman.
In the afternoon, the Cardinal returned to Colombo.
On the 5 January in the evening, the Cardinal attended Epiphany Mass at Holy Cross Convent and then took part in a dinner hosted by the British High Commissioner.
