The purpose of this paper is to look at how the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Westminster is responding to the challenges and responsibilities of changing public attitudes towards people with a learning disability.

From February – April 2006 a research project was undertaken to answer the question “Are parishioners with learning disabilities within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Westminster able to participate in local parish services and events on a similar level to parishioners in general”.

The research was not looking at peoples’ understanding of the teachings of the church regarding disability, nor was it looking at peoples’ understanding of their faith or spirituality; rather it was looking at how much the church is a welcoming community to people with learning disabilities.

The report comes in two downloadable versions: (1) Summary  (2) Accessible version.
