Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor was ordained in 1956. He was Rector of the English College in Rome before becoming Bishop of Arundel and Brighton in 1977. He became Archbishop of Westminster in 2000 and was created a Cardinal in 2001. He is President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales.
