When we look at the social movements of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, they owe an enormous debt to Christian reformers, such as Elizabeth Fry, Lord Shaftesbury, Florence Nightingale, These were prophetic voices in their own times, speaking out on glaring injustices to their churches and society as a whole, and totally changing the way society thought and legislated about social issues.
