Around 1885 through the generosity of the Beckwith sisters, Fr. Timothy O'Sullivan built a school - Chapel at 94 Bath Road. During the week the building was used as a school and on Sundays it was turned into a place of worship.
In the year 1924-1955, Fr. Musgrave raised money for the new church.
On 11th March 1928 the foundation stone was laid and the church was dedicated to Ss Michael & Martin, the soldier saints reflecting the army association with the Parish. The church was opened on the 19th of March 1929. It was consecrated (blessed) in 1935.
