Fr Dain Celebration Lunch
Many parishioners will remember Fr
Dain who served this parish for many years. Today Sun 21st March, Fr
Dain returned to the parish to concelebrate the 11.00am Mass with Fr
Raymond and then joined 80 parishioners, both current and those who
have moved away for a superb lunch again laid on by Anne and the ladies
of the CWL. Fr Raymond began the proceedings with Grace and then
everyone sang Ad Multos Annos . This was to celebrate the great occasion
of Fr Ken's 50th Anniversary of Ordination to the Priesthood. It was a
wonderful event and as always the food was excellent, despite having a
short interlude between starter and main, but this was filled by some
improtu singing led by Bernard. Fr Dain was visibly moved by the
occasion but it was great to be able to celebrate with him. Thanks to
Mary and Bob for collecting him and returning him home.
PAPAL VISIT
A Great occasion at both Hyde Park and Cofton
Park. 56 Pilgrims set off on Saturday at 11.45 and enjoyed a superb and
very moving experience at the Prayer Vigil. Our banner bearer, Mark, did
us proud.
Pilgrims returned home at 10.30pm and for those of them
planning on going to Cofton Park the next day this meant very little,
if no sleep that evening as we had to leave our Church at 3am Sunday
morning.
Thanks go to Alan who was a real trouper having been
pilgrim leader at Hyde Park and then volunteering to drive us to
Harpenden at 3am and pick us up at 7pm. We arrived at Harpenden in
plenty of time and departed at 4.10am. Having a short stop on the way
we arrived at Cofton Park at 7.00am. It was an amazing sight with
hundreds of coaches and buses pulling into the car park.
Although a
slightly wet/damp start to the day, right on cue, as the Pope arrived,
out came the sun with a rainbow to welcome him. It was a fantastic day,
the Beatification of John Henry Newman was so special and the Mass very
moving. The only down side of the day was being about the 4th last
coach to leave at 4.15pm, but a great day all the same. Thanks to Wanda
for her leadership.
God Bless Pope Benedict.
CWL Summer Lunch
Today Sunday 18th July the CWL held their annual summer lunch,
unfortunately due to the unpredictable weather we did not eat outside
but once again the food was excellent and the team of ladies as always
excelled themselves. It was a good community event and raised £470 for
the CWL charities.
Well done ladies.
