The Diocese has published its new Secondary School Prospectus for 2013

The Prospectus, entitled Choosing a Catholic Secondary School, is aimed at parents of children who will enter year 6 in September 2012, and who are due to transfer to secondary school in September 2013. In almost all parts of this diocese there are currently sufficient places in Catholic secondary schools to accommodate every Catholic child.* The Prospectus explains clearly what parents must do if they wish to secure a place in a Catholic secondary school.

There are 40 maintained secondary schools in the Diocese of Westminster. All of these schools are Voluntary Aided schools or 'Academies', run by the Church and funded by the Local Authority or Department of Education respectively. All of these secondary schools are part of a co-ordinated admission process which is explained in the Prospectus.

* In areas of population growth and high demand, the Diocese plans expansion of school places so that this remains the case.

A Summary of the Process

In order to get a place at a Catholic school, parents will have to take the steps set out below. Each of the steps is explained in more detail in the Prospectus.

  • Visit as many Catholic secondary schools as you can. Get hold of each schools prospectus and other information about the schools.
  • Choose up to six Catholic schools you would like your child to attend.
  • Fill in a Common Application Form (CAF) from the Local Authority (LA) in whose area you live. You will have to list the schools in your order of preference and return the CAF to the Local Authority.
  • Fill in a Supplementary Information Form (SIF) for every Catholic school to which you have applied. Return each of these forms direct to the school concerned.
  • Make sure that all forms are returned before the closing date set by your Local Authority.
