The four West End Churches are located in the heart of London, in Soho and Covent Garden. People gather in the restaurants, bars and theatres wanting to be entertained. This is the area, which is infamous for drugs, entertainment and the sex industry. Individuals wander through the streets seeking instant gratification. The unique mission of the Churches here is to be present and reach out to the 250 thousand people who pass by every day.
At the heart of our Parishes' life is the celebration of Holy Mass and the Daily Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from which flow all the various activities and make the Churches a spiritual oasis in what is probably the busiest part of one of the busiest cities in the world.
History of West End Catholic Churches
The history of the West End Catholic Churches is very colourful, and includes stories of Irish, Italian immigrants, French living in London. Presently the churches give home to French speaking African communities, Spanish, Brazilian, Chinese Catholics, and provide a place of worship to many visitors from all around the world.
The West End churches serve those few who live in the area but also those who work here. They reach out in many ways to the homeless, the poor; and to those who are addicted to drugs, alcohol. Other different communities find here a home: young adults who want to deepen their faith, pray together, evangelise; just as gay people who can find encouragement and listening ears.
All the activities aim to create a praying heart at the West End, where Christ himself is truly present. The churches work together to promote the work of evangelisation, through the processions and street missions they are witnesses of the living God: going out to the world and reclaim the streets for Jesus !
