Representatives from parishes across the Diocese of Westminster attended the Mass held on the 20th annual World Day for the Sick. During the Mass, the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick was adminstered.
In the Pope’s message for World Day of the Sick, the Holy Father has said that, “A time of suffering can be transformed into a time of grace.” Pope Benedict XVI is focussing on the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Anointing of the Sick in his message this year; the latter of which will be carried out by Archbishop Vincent Nichols and the Auxiliary Bishops during the Mass.
The Pope has also asked that, “...special attention be given to guarantee the possibility of frequent Holy Communion to those who for reasons of health or age, cannot go to a place of worship.”
As well as those currently in ill health, the Mass was attended by doctors and healthcare chaplains from around the diocese, as well as pilgrims past and present from the diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes
