The Most Reverend Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster has initiated an Annual Pilgrimage to the Holy Land for the Diocese of Westminster. The first pilgrimage will take place from 3-11 November 2011.
Archbishop Nichols said: “In this eight day pilgrimage we will visit the major holy sites in Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Galilee. The main purpose of this annual pilgrimage is that we journey together as a diocese to pray together in the places the Lord and his disciples prayed. In this way I hope our communion with the Lord and each other will be renewed.”
“Very importantly, the pilgrimage also gives us the opportunity to show our solidarity with the local Christian churches in the Holy Land which as you know are in great need of our help. By praying with them, staying among them, visiting the Catholic parishes and supporting them while we are there, I hope we can reassure them that their suffering has not gone unnoticed and that we as a diocese are determined to help them in whatever ways we can.”
Fr John Hemer will be the spiritual/scriptural director for the pilgrimage and Fr Paul McDermott, parish priest at Cricklewood will be the organiser. All travel arrangements will be made by Tagney Tours.
