The new Apostolic Nuncio to the UK, Archbishop Antonio Mennini, presented his diplomatic papers to HM Queen Elizabeth on 2 March 2011.

His Excellency Archbishop Mennini, presented a letter of his appointment as Apostolic Nuncio to the Court of St James as well as his predecessor's resignation papers. His Excellency Archbishop Faustino Sainz Muñoz retired on health grounds on 5 December 2010.

The Apostolic Nuncio was taken from Archbishop's House to Buckingham Palace in a horse drawn carriage where he was was greeted by HM Queen Elizabeth. An altar server from Westminster Cathedral was the coachman for the Nuncio’s carriage.

Background

Archbishop Antonio Mennini, 63, was born in Rome and has been engaged in the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See since 3 April 1981. Archbishop Mennini was formerly Apostolic Nuncio to the Russian Federation and to Uzbekistan.
