ARCHBISHOP’S MASS OF THANKSGIVING FOR THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY SATURDAY 18 MAY 2013 AT 3PM WESTMINSTER CATHEDRAL
Archbishop Vincent will be inviting to the Mass all couples in the Diocese who are celebrating their 10th, 25th, 40th, 50th and 60th+ wedding anniversary of Catholic marriage in 2013. Parishioners who qualify should supply the following details to Catherine Macgillivray (cathmacgillivray@rcdow.org.uk) : husband and wife’s names, wedding date, full postal address and email (or telephone number, if no email) by 21 April 2013.
During the liturgy there will be an opportunity to renew their marital commitment and solemnly pray for them and there families. We will recall with love and compassion all those whose marriages have experienced deep pain and suffering. The order of service will contain information on the various agencies, apostolates and movements working hard to support marriage and family life in the Diocese and beyond.

SPEAK OUT FOR MARRIAGE AND SEND A POSTCARD TO YOUR MP
The government will soon publish the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill which, if passed, will fundamentally alter the meaning of marriage. We urge you to ‘Speak Out for Marriage’ and defend the definition that has played a fundamental role in society for centuries. The most effective way of defending marriage at this point is by contacting your local MP in order to make your views known.
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference has launched a postcard campaign entitled ‘Speak Out for Marriage’. Postcards are available at the back of the Church. All you have to do is write the name of your MP on the front, your name and address on the back, affix a stamp and pop it in the post. It is particularly important at this time that all MPs are made aware of the strength of feeling among their own constituents on this issue. We must ‘Speak Out for Marriage’

PLANNED GIVING AND STANDING ORDERS
Many of our Parishioners give their weekly collection money by standing order or planned giving envelopes. This is of immense help to the Parish. It means that we have a regular income and in the case of standing orders, it doesn’t have to be counted. You will have noticed that over the summer months and school holidays the collections drop dramatically. The bills, however, still have to be paid. If you are a UK tax payer you can also gift aid which gives the Parish a further 25% - free money!!! Please contact the parish
administrator for information and forms on placidofernandes@rcdow.org.uk

DO YOU LIKE SINGING?
The choir at the 11.30am Mass is in need of more singers, the more the merrier! All ages and abilities are welcome. We usually rehearse every two weeks after Mass. However, there is no commitment to sing every week, just when you are able. We are currently working on Christmas music, singing more psalms and Taizé music. So, if you like music and want to help enrich the liturgy, please do join us in the organ loft! As St. Augustine said, "To sing once is to pray twice."

CHILDREN’S LITURGY AND THE 10AM MASS CRECHE
The children’s liturgy at 10am Mass commences once again this Sunday. This allows children of school age to have the Liturgy of the Word at their own level, leaving the adults to listen to God’s Word. The team could do with more volunteers. If you feel you could assist, please email the Parish Priest. All volunteers vetted and receive a CRB CLEARANCE BEFORE WORKING WITH CHILDREN. The Sisters of St Marcellina very kindly run a crèche for very young children at 10am Mass and I am very grateful to them. This is not suitable for children who attend school. At other Masses no child should be allowed in the Parish room without proper supervision.

If you have a good voice and/or can play a musical instrument to a competent level and can make this weekly commitment, please speak to a member of the group or Mgr Phelim. There has been a appeal on Health & Safety grounds that sometimes the stairs to the choir loft are obstructed by people sitting on them.
