The Parish of Our Lady of Grace and St Edward is a very active and sociable one with strong ties with the local community and business. Many activities take place in the Chiswick Catholic Centre located at 2 Dukes Avenue. Centre Manager Brenda Houston can be contacted via the Parish Office or on 07899 930379.
The Children's Liturgy Group
The parish of Our Lady of Grace & St Edward has a Children's Liturgy programme that is led by catechists. It is not Sunday School; rather the aim is to provide the children with a Liturgy of the Word suited to their age and ability. Children's Liturgy is for children aged 5+ during the 9.45 Sunday Mass. This takes place on most Sundays throughout the year except during the Summer holidays.
In addition, the group produces seasonal newsletters and organises Good Friday Liturgy for children, as well as Family Reconciliation Services during the seasons of Advent and Lent.
The Union of Catholic Mothers
The UCM is an organisation for married women who are Catholic or married to a Catholic. The group’s objectives are to :
- Help married women appreciate the sacramental character, the responsibilities and the permanence of marriage
- Live in unselfish love observing the laws of God and his Church
- Assist in bringing up their children as practising Catholics and public spirited citizens
- Offer love, sympathy and practical help to families in difficulty
The Chiswick branch of the UCM has 30 members, some of whom are married with young children, some are grandmothers and even great grandmothers.
Throughout the year the UCM organises catering at various Parish events and hold an annual jumble sale and Christmas Bazaar to raise money for charity. Meetings are held at 8.00pm on the first Wednesday of every month, upstairs in the Parish Centre.
Youth Club
Our Lady of Grace & St Edward’s has officially re-launched its Youth Club in 2004. Aimed at children in the parish aged between 11-13, the Parish Youth Club is held on Friday nights from 6.30pm-8.30pm in the Parish Centre. The new-look Youth Club promises an action packed time for all those who attend.
The generosity of local businesses in donating equipment and time, coupled with the upbeat efforts of Youth Club co-ordinators has made the re-launch of the Parish Youth Club possible.
If you are interested in attending the Youth Club or would like to find out more about it, please contact the Parish Office.
